Information Technology Organization of Iran (ITO) as subsidiary of Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of Iran has been providing smart government services across the nation. The main mission of ITO is to prepare and update the government IT strategy, develop and maintain Government Service Bus (GSB), and help people use their mostly needed e-services through the national SSO (Single Sign On). ITO is supports private local platforms to get developed as well. Additionally, cybersecurity policy preparation in association with other responsible organizations and managing the Internet resources; nationwide such as holistic management of IP addresses and domain names and Domain Name Systems (DNS), are the other important roles that belong to ITO.
With a comprehensive mandate to regulate, standardize, and make policies, ITO employs effective mechanisms to protect competency in the IT ecosystem of the country. Through organizing, directing, and guiding the information technology sectors, ITO ensures the protection of public interests. As the official representative of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the ITO actively pursues national interests and policies within the information technology domain through participation in international institutions and forums such as ITU, ICANN, WSIS, IGF, etc.

At the Information Technology Organization of Iran, our mission is to effectively manage and leverage information technology resources to achieve the following strategic objectives:
Establishing a Comprehensive Nationwide Single Window of Smart Government: We are liable to implement and develop the smart government across the nation by facilitating the e-services delivery to the citizens.
Establishing the government services on cloud (G-Cloud): we implement and integrate cloud-based data centers for the purpose of providing e-services at G2G and G2B levels on cloud.
Developing Electronic Interaction Infrastructure: Developing and maintaining the country's national information exchange center (NIX) and enhancing the infrastructure of electronic interactions among all government departments. This empowers seamless information flow and collaboration among government bodies to provide smart and integrated services for both citizens and businesses through the GaaP approach.
Supporting the Local Digital Service Platforms for Citizens: We support privately owned user-friendly and accessible local digital service platforms, messengers, and social networks for citizens and ensure the privacy and security of these platforms in providing services for people.
Regulating Digital Platforms and IT services: We act as the regulator of the information technology sector in the country. The regulation of digital platforms and businesses is done with the aim of guiding innovations and standardizing information and software infrastructures, protecting national interests and the rights of businesses and their customers. The organization's effort is to accomplish its task using cooperative regulation models and RegTech's solutions, using the capacity of the private sector and other sectoral regulators.
Fostering Digital Business Empowerment: We have a duty to develop the digital economy and smart infrastructure of services in the country by using various models of support and partnership with the private sector. In this regard, we have used various support tools such as granting facilities to small and medium-sized companies, partnering and establishing new companies with medium-sized and large companies. Noafarin Research and Technology Fund is one of these exits, which is known as one of the active VCs in the country's digital economy ecosystem acts as a business partner to strengthen the digital economy and fill the innovation financing gaps.
Enhancing Cybersecurity: We elevate the level of cybersecurity across the nation by significant protective projects and regulating activities. Maher CERT is the Iranian national computer emergency response team. It collaborates with government, industry, law enforcement, and universities to provide and boost the security and resilience of networks throughout the country. The CERT also focuses on studying and designing advanced methods and tools to counter large-scale, sophisticated cyber threats. ITO evaluates the expert cybersecurity service and product provider companies in four main areas: operational, technical, managerial, and educational to issue licenses for them.
Managing and Regulating the Service Layer of the National Information Network and Internet Resources: Our focus is firstly on the effective management and optimization of the security and accessibility of the service layer of the national information network and secondly on the management of internet resources (IPv4, IPv6, and DNS) that ensure efficient allocation, utilization, and scalability to meet the growing demands of digital services and the availability of international contents as well.
