Iranian ICT Minister Embarks on Groundbreaking Visit to Serbia
TEHRAN – Seyed Sattar Hashemi, Iran's Minister of Information and Communication Technology, departed from Tehran for Belgrade on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in the realm of technology diplomacy.
This visit is the first by a senior Iranian official in the ICT sector to a European nation in the past decade, taking place at the official invitation of Serbia's Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Dejan Ristic.
The primary focus of Hashemi's trip is to fortify bilateral collaborations in critical areas such as new communication technologies, artificial intelligence, and to further the strategic objectives of the Iranian ICT Ministry regarding international relations. Over the course of his three-day visit, Hashemi is scheduled to engage in specialized meetings and discussions with his Serbian counterpart, culminating in the signing of a joint cooperation agreement.
Key initiatives of this forthcoming agreement will emphasize the development of joint projects in artificial intelligence, the establishment of cloud infrastructure, and the exchange of technical expertise in emerging technologies. Additionally, Hashemi’s itinerary includes visits to advanced data centers and AI facilities in Serbia, as well as high-level discussions with officials overseeing new communication technologies.
This series of engagements is designed to introduce the Iranian delegation to Serbia's advancements in positioning itself as a technological hub within the Balkan region while exploring potential avenues for collaboration between the two nations. The scheduled meetings underscore both Tehran and Belgrade's commitment to transforming technological cooperation into a cornerstone of their bilateral relationship.
Experts contend that Hashemi's visit is not just a diplomatic formality; it represents a vital opportunity for Iran to expand its technological footprint in European markets and attract foreign investments in key sectors, including startups, cybersecurity, and communications infrastructure. Serbia's strategic location serves as a conduit for Iran's technological outreach to Europe, potentially enhancing the ICT ministry's technology diplomacy initiatives.
As the visit unfolds, the Iranian ICT minister's discussions and agreements may pave the way for a new era of technological partnership between Iran and Serbia, fostering innovation and development in an increasingly interconnected world.
