Belgrade, Serbia– Iranian Minister of Information and Communication Technology announced Tehran's readiness to elevate cooperation with Serbia to a strategic level during an official meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Thursday. The meeting, part of Iran's ongoing technology diplomacy efforts, served as a platform for Hashemi to deliver a formal message from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to his Serbian counterpart. The discussions focused on fostering collaboration in various technological fields, particularly in communications, information technology, and artificial intelligence.

Hashemi underscored the historical ties between Iran and Serbia, stating, "Today is an opportunity to strengthen these bonds by enhancing the level of cooperation in various fields, especially information technology, communications, and artificial intelligence." He expressed Iran's commitment to advancing cooperation in critical areas such as cybersecurity, e-government, digital infrastructure, and data transfer.

Highlighting Iran's technological advancements, Hashemi remarked, "We can take great steps for the development of technology in the region by establishing joint research laboratories and exchanging technical knowledge." He emphasized Iran's robust startup ecosystem and its potential contributions to smart and digital transformation projects in Serbia.

In response, President Vučić expressed gratitude for the message from President Pezeshkian, acknowledging Iran's influential role in the Asia and Middle East regions. He welcomed the prospect of enhanced relations with Tehran, particularly in communications and information technology, and directed his Minister of Information and Telecommunications to explore opportunities for cooperation in data transmission.

Vučić also commended Iran's achievements in space communications, including the design, construction, and launch of measurement and telecommunications satellites, and welcomed the potential transfer of Iran's expertise in these areas. He further pointed to Iran's capabilities in establishing fiber optic factories and encouraged collaboration with the Iranian ICT Ministry in Serbia.

Additionally, the message from President Pezeshkian highlighted Iran's readiness to participate in Expo 2027 Belgrade, reinforcing Tehran's support for Serbia's candidacy to host the event. The Iranian President noted that Serbia's hosting of the Expo would enhance regional solidarity and contribute to the development of the Western Balkans.

As both nations look to solidify their partnership, the discussions signify a promising future for cooperation in the ICT sector, with potential benefits for both countries' technological landscapes.
