Iran and Serbia Forge Path to Collaborative Future
In press conference held in Belgrade, Iran's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Seyed Sattar Hashemi, announced significant agreements forged with Serbian counterpart, Dijan Ristic.
The discussions culminated in the signing of several memorandums of understanding aimed at enhancing telecommunications infrastructure, digital economy, and e-government initiatives between the two nations, which Hashemi described as “the beginning of a fruitful future.”
The press conference took place on the heels of a key meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Expressing gratitude for his warm hospitality, Hashemi underscored the historical significance of the gathering, stating it reflects the shared commitment of Iran and Serbia to expand relations across strategic sectors.
“This meeting symbolizes our mutual intention to strengthen ties,” Hashemi remarked, relaying a message from Iran’s President that emphasized the desire for deeper bilateral collaboration.
Identifying both countries as a bridge between East and West, Hashemi highlighted the importance of these dialogues in fostering bilateral relations in the fields of communication and technology. He noted, “Iran and Serbia, with their rich histories, prominent cultures, and notable geographical positions, can serve as a conduit connecting diverse regions. This partnership not only contributes to economic and technical development but also enhances regional peace and stability.”
The minister described the primary focuses of the agreements, which include the development of telecommunications infrastructure such as fiber optics and cloud data centers, facilitation of data transit, improvement of postal collaborations, strengthening the digital economy, implementation of e-government projects, and fostering joint investment in technology research and development.
Hashemi identified these cooperative memorandums as transformative opportunities for the two nations’ communication infrastructures, presenting a model for regional collaboration toward the fortification of peace and stability. He also acknowledged Serbia's geographical location and technological capabilities as a central point for connecting the Balkans with the global digital economy.
Adding to the sentiments, Dijan Ristic, the Serbian Minister, referred to the historical and cultural commonalities shared between the two nations, asserting that these collaborations represent a significant stride towards fostering innovation and economic growth. Ristic noted, “By combining our strengths, Serbia and Iran can present a successful model of international cooperation that narrows distances and solidifies friendships.”
Concluding the press conference, Hashemi encouraged media representatives to convey the message of partnership and friendship between Iran and Serbia to the world, reiterating that these agreements mark "the beginning of a fruitful future."
