Iran and Azerbaijan Sign Agreement to Enhance Connectivity and Data Transit Corridors
Baku, Azerbaijan - May 28, 2025 - In conjunction with the state visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Baku, Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have signed a strategic agreement to expand cooperation in the field of ICT.
The agreement, signed on Monday during President Pezeshkian's visit, underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthening bilateral and regional collaboration in developing communication infrastructure, particularly in the areas of data transit and the construction of submarine cables.
The agreement aims to enhance data transit between Azerbaijan and Iran's neighboring countries, including Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, and others, through Iranian routes. This development is expected to attract eastward traffic through Iran.
Furthermore, both countries have agreed to jointly invest in infrastructure projects, such as developing submarine cables, to strengthen the North-South and East-West communication corridors. These projects are poised to solidify Iran's role as a key connecting hub between Asia and Europe.
The agreement aligns with the Iranian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's strategic plan to expand international cooperation in the field of information technology and strengthen its strategic role in global communication corridors
