Government Intervention Hinders Innovation
Minister of Communications and Information Technology, emphasized the need to leverage the tourism and agricultural potential of Mazandaran province through digital transformation during a meeting with IT industry leaders in the region.
Mazandaran, Iran - May8, 2025- According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology's Public Relations Center, Minister Hashemi highlighted Mazandaran's significant tourism capabilities, stating that a comprehensive evaluation is required to determine the extent and methods by which digital solutions can be utilized to maximize these assets.
Addressing requests for government intervention in these sectors, Hashemi cautioned against direct governmental involvement. "Direct government intervention is not a desirable outcome. While supporting technological development is our responsibility, and we will undoubtedly provide assistance, excessive interference can stifle innovation and creativity," he asserted.
Hashemi further criticized the over-reliance on prescriptive planning, stating, "Unfortunately, there's a strong tendency towards excessive 'document writing' in the country, which doesn't significantly contribute to technological advancement."
He underscored the importance of understanding the core concept of digital transformation, stating that a proper grasp of this concept is crucial for charting a sustainable path for growth and progress in the sector.
Furthermore, Minister Hashemi pointed to the agricultural potential of Mazandaran, emphasizing the necessity of utilizing Artificial Intelligence in this field. He cited examples of countries employing advanced technologies for plant care and advocated for a similar approach in Iran.
The Minister announced the establishment of a Digital Economy Park in the province and highlighted the formation of a Digital Economy Working Group as an effective step towards developing this sector.
Finally, Hashemi emphasized the potential of universities in building research satellites and expressed the Ministry's readiness to collaborate with universities in Mazandaran province in this endeavor.
