Iran Unveils National Communication Projects on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day
Tehran, Iran - May 17, 2025 - President Masoud Pezeshkian, accompanied by Minister of ICT, inaugurated three national projects focused on intelligent communication, technological innovation, and digital equity.
In commemoration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, President Masoud Pezeshkian, accompanied by Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Seyyed Sattar Hashemi, inaugurated three national projects focused on intelligent communication, technological innovation, and digital equity.
The projects, spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, encompass infrastructure development, support for the technology ecosystem, and expanded connectivity in rural areas, outlining a roadmap for Iran's digital future.
Significant Boost to National Communication Network Capacity
The first project, implemented by the Telecommunication Infrastructure Company, dramatically increases the capacity of the country's core communication network. Leveraging domestic capabilities and the technical expertise of Iranian youth, the network capacity has surged to 28 Terabits per second across 285 locations in 31 provinces.
This development represents a 62% increase in the country's transmission network capacity, rising from 45,000 to 73,000 Gigabits per second. This upgrade promises users a faster, higher-quality, and more reliable online experience. Moreover, the increased transmission capacity lays the foundation for the development of technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and 5G. Since the beginning of the 14th administration, international internet traffic has increased by 28%, while data transit and international cooperation have risen by 50%, signifying a significant advancement in data diplomacy.
"Kahkeshan FAVA": A Smart Platform Supporting the National Technology Ecosystem
The second project launched was the "Kahkeshan FAVA" (FAVA Galaxy) integrated intelligent system, an innovative platform designed to support ideation, startups, technology cores, and knowledge-based companies. Aligned with the goals of the Seventh Development Plan and the creation of a technological leap, the system offers services such as financial facilities, specialized support, investment participation, and market stimulation in a transparent, fast, and intelligent environment for technology actors across the country.
Rural Connectivity Increases by 4%
The third initiative focuses on expanding communication equity, with a particular emphasis on underserved and rural areas. Since the beginning of the 14th administration, access to communication services has been provided to 1,478 villages. In recent months alone, 155,088 households and over 525,000 individuals in rural areas have gained access to high-speed mobile internet.
Thanks to the efforts of the Rural Communications and Information Technology Development sector and the Universal Service Obligation (USO) scheme, internet coverage in rural areas has increased by 4% in the past eight months. This marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and expanding communication equity throughout Iran.
