Iran and Cuba recently held their first joint working group meeting on digital cooperation, with officials from both countries discussing ways to enhance bilateral exchanges and strengthen ICT collaborations. The meeting was part of the implementation of the action plan between the two countries and marked a significant step towards developing digital cooperation between Iran and Cuba.

 

According to a press release from the Public Relations Department of Iran's Information Technology Organization, the meeting was attended by Wilfredo Gonzalez Vidal, Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Communications, along with the Cuban ambassador and his delegation.

They met with Dr. Mohammad Khansaari, the Deputy Minister of Communications of Iran, and some senior managers of Iran's communication agencies. The two sides discussed how to create close and effective cooperation in postal, spatial, regulatory, technology park, and smart government areas.

 

During his visit to the National Information Exchange Center of Iran, Vidal was introduced to the operations of certain national systems, including the National Window of Smart Government Services and the single Window of Land Management. Gonzalez Vidal also gained insight into the operations of some of Iran's national systems, which facilitate billion-dollar transactions through the GSB and PGSB corridors.

Khansaari explained how data integration and smart government services were provided to the public. The head of Iran's Information Technology Organization also explained how private sector interactions and collaborations could advance the country's major ICT plans and invited Cuba's Ministry of Communications to utilize Iranian businesses' capacity for digital development.

The deputy minister of communications also referred to the expansion of the activities of domestic messengers in the country and announced Iran’s readiness for cooperation in this field.

 

Vidal expressed his interest in developing digital cooperation with Iran and mentioned his country's desire to acquire emerging technologies such as satellite manufacturing.

He also emphasized that the regulatory system in Cuba is new and needs experience in setting laws. Cooperation between Iranian and Cuban companies is not just for competition but for mutual trade benefits that can expand interactions between the two countries in various technology and postal areas.

 

The meeting also included senior managers from Iran's National Post Company, Iran’s Space Organization, Iran’s ICT and Radio Communications Regulatory Organization, The office of Technology and Innovation, and ICT parks. They presented their reports on their activities and proposed areas of cooperation for digital development with Cuba.

 

The meeting was held as the first meeting of the joint working group, following the implementation of the action plan between the two countries.

 

This collaboration could open up new opportunities for both countries to expand their digital capabilities and trade.

The development of digital cooperation between Iran and Cuba was the main focus of the meeting, with discussions on how to enhance bilateral exchanges and strengthen ICT collaborations in various areas.
