Iranian Messaging Apps' Strategic Evolution Towards Independence
In an exclusive interview with the science and technology correspondent of Fars News Agency, Hamed Monkaresi, Deputy Director of Policy and Accreditation at the Iranian Information Technology Organization, delved into the transformative initiatives shaping the Iranian messaging app landscape over the past year. Notably, a pivotal achievement was the strategic focus on empowering domestic platforms, marking a significant advancement forward.
Monkaresi underscored the remarkable surge in user numbers and traffic consumption within the messaging app sector. Witnessing a robust 40% growth in user bases compared to the previous year, one standout messaging app experienced a remarkable threefold increase in traffic consumption.
Furthermore, efforts were directed towards organizing and regulating data centers and cloud services, recognized as vital elements of the country's information infrastructure. Monkaresi revealed that these initiatives resulted in the issuance of 66 certifications and licenses for data center operators, irrespective of their governmental or private status. The overarching objective is to drive positive regulatory advancements within the industry in the upcoming year, ultimately contributing to the growth of Iran's digital economy.
Highlighting another significant milestone, Monkaresi acknowledged the launch of a Regulatory Sandbox by the Iranian Information Technology Organization. This initiative has already commenced operations with two projects, providing an enabling environment for startups and emerging companies seeking new regulatory frameworks
