Iran's Deputy Minister and head of Information Technology Organization of IRAN (ITO), Dr. Mohammad Khansari, delivered a compelling report from Geneva, showcasing the country's strategic utilization of information and communication technology to push national development.
At the prestigious WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event 2024, Dr. Khansari underscored the pivotal role of infrastructure and communication services in driving Iran's five-year development plans. Emphasizing the seamless access to essential services facilitated through an integrated e-government platform, Dr. Khansari highlighted the remarkable progress in broadband connectivity. With over 98% of the rural population now able to access 3G and 4G mobile networks – an equivalent of 96% of the nation's villages – Iran has ensured affordable public communication services for all, even in remote areas, through the Universal Service Obligation (USO) program. In an effort to further improve high-speed internet accessibility, Iran launched the "Fiber to Home and Business" infrastructure project (FTTX) last year, targeting approximately 7.5 million households and businesses.
Dr. Khansari also unveiled Iran's remarkable steps in domestic digital platforms, spanning e-health, messaging apps, social networks, e-commerce, and video services. The Smart Government National Portal, inaugurated two years ago, offers array of more than three thousand services linked to 99% of government agencies. At the end he extends a warm invitation from the Islamic Republic of Iran for international collaboration to exchange experiences, attract investments, and adopt emerging technologies.
