Sattar Hashemi Officially Appointed as Iran's Minister of Communications
Dr. Sattar Hashemi has been appointed Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the fourteenth government, following a decisive vote of confidence from the Parliament of Iran. Hashemi received an impressive 264 votes out of 288 from parliament members, marking him as the youngest minister in the current administration.
Following his appointment, Hashemi expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, "I am thankful for the trust placed in me by the esteemed President and honorable representatives of the people. As Minister, I am committed to fulfilling the government's promises in the communications field."
Born in 1976 in Yasouj, Hashemi holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering. He earned his undergraduate degree in hardware from Isfahan University and a master's in artificial intelligence from Iran University of Science and Technology, later completing his Ph.D. through a joint program with Monash University in Australia.
Hashemi's previous roles included Deputy for Technology and Innovation at the Ministry of Communications from 2019 to 2021 and later held the position of Deputy for Technology Development and Electronic Services Registration at the National Registration Office.
His executive experience includes roles such as Deputy for Information Technology at the Communication Infrastructure Company from 2017 to 2019.
As he steps into this pivotal role, Hashemi has outlined his agenda for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, focusing on six key areas:
- Development of communications and the National Information Network
- Implementation of smart government initiatives and practical applications of artificial intelligence in various industries
- Advancement of the digital economy
- Support for content development and services in cyberspace
- Growth of the space industry
- Smart postal services
