ICT Minister Launches Three New Telecommunication Satellites

Tehran, Iran – In a significant advancement for the nation's space capabilities, Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Seyed Sattar Hashemi unveiled three indigenous telecommunication satellites—Pars 2, Navak, and an upgraded version of Pars 1—during a ceremony commemorating National Space Technology Day on Sunday. The event, held at the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, was inaugurated by President Masoud Pezeshkian, who underscored the government's commitment to the development of the space sector.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of ICT, Minister Hashemi praised the resilience and dedication of researchers in Iran's space industry, stating, "The fact that we are able to hold such a ceremony today is due to the efforts of all researchers who exercised resilience in this field. Considering the less-than-savory conditions we were facing, we can proudly state that Iran's space industry has taken great strides." He highlighted the government's strategic focus on space technology as outlined in the Seventh Development Plan, particularly emphasizing the objectives of consolidating Iran's position in low Earth orbit (LEO) and achieving geostationary orbit at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers.

Hashemi acknowledged President Pezeshkian’s presence as a testament to the administration's serious commitment to advancing the space industry. He noted that the Seventh Development Plan includes specific tasks for the ICT ministry, aiming to enhance Iran's capabilities in satellite technology and space exploration.

"The private sector can advance with fast acceleration the path that has begun," Hashemi remarked, emphasizing the critical role of private enterprises in the space industry. He advocated for increased participation from the private sector, citing its potential to leverage human resources and foster productivity, which is crucial for achieving the government's economic growth targets.

The minister also pointed to the practical applications of space technology, particularly in creating land cover maps for the country, a priority emphasized by President Pezeshkian. Hashemi concluded his address by reiterating the Supreme Leader's call for access to geostationary orbit, stating, "This opens a new horizon for the space industry and can establish a new ecosystem."

The unveiling of these satellites marks a pivotal moment for Iran's space ambitions, reflecting a concerted effort to enhance technological capabilities and foster collaboration across various sectors, including military, civil, and private enterprises.
